Testimonials
I couldn’t have been more impressed with the level of service that Remote Trauma provided our production in Uganda. From the earliest stages of production, their health and safety and security advice enabled us to turn a development dream into a production reality.

“I worked with Remote Trauma in a remote and potentially traumatic region of Ethiopia on a long and very complex film shoot. We were many hours drive from any town and even further from any medical facility, we were surrounded by trigger happy men with AK47s and working long hours in extreme heat. The reassurance of having someone from Remote Trauma with a thorough knowledge of the area and its people, as well as first class medical skills and equipment, was immeasurable. Difficult situations were avoided and medical problems dealt with before they could become medical emergencies. Anyone doing a shoot of this type should have a line in their budget for Remote Trauma”

Keeping a unit of twenty-four contributors and crew, and at least as many Ethiopians, safe, well and feeling secure during a 4-week shoot in the hottest place on earth is no mean feat. The Danakil Depression is remote, hostile and close to Ethiopia's disputed border with Eritrea. Fifteen Europeans were kidnapped here in March 2007. Remote Trauma provided the expertise and experience to ensure a safe and successful shoot, monitoring events between recce and filming and recommending a last-minute change of base camp location due to reports of rebel activity. On the medical side, RT dealt confidently with a severe case of heat exhaustion, and with the inevitable upset stomachs and effects of dehydration. I can't imagine how we could have done this shoot without them.

Remote Trauma were responsible for my production crews health and safety training prior to a trip to the desert and the jungle. This involved an intensive one day course that covered basic remote medicine and hostile environment training. The course was extremely well organised, and included plenty of practical work that allowed the team to come away with a good grasp of what to expect on the trip, and how to deal with it. I have worked with Remote Trauma on many foreign shoots and am always impressed by the support they offer. All their members are a pleasure to have on a team and their knowledge and experience is, without doubt, essential to a safe production.

It’s amazing how much one can learn in just a few days. Remote Trauma has perfected the balance of classroom theory and hands on practical exercises. Using fake blood, guns and with a few laughs along the way, the vastly experienced instructors (who themselves still regularly work in hostile environments) take you through a myriad of potential threatening circumstances: what could happen, how to react, how to stay alive! You leave each day of the course feeling more equipped to deal with any emergency situation. In my opinion these courses should be mandatory for all film crews working at home or abroad.
