Combat Stress the Commando Way
16 October 2009
What do a troop of commandos, a world renown, published, adventurer explorer and a hand full of independent television production companies have in common? Combat Stress and the need to make a difference.
Remote Trauma and the Commando Medical Branch Association joined forces this month to raise money for the charity Combat Stress, hosting a dinner at the home of the Special Boat Service in Poole. Having dinner with the elite of her majesty’s special forces was never going to be an average affair. The location guaranteed a swift RSVP and the presence of guest speaker Benedict Allen, global adventurer and indefatigable explorer secured the attention of all 135 people in the room.
This successful evening of fund raising was launched with a champagne reception and mess beatings by the Royal Marines’ Band. Boosted by port fines, the opening bid of £1000 for a seat on a Royal Naval Fighter jet flight at auction sealed the deal. Guests and supporters raised more than £6000 for charity.
Thank you to all of you who supported Remote Trauma and COMBA for 2009. We are already planning the next one for 2010 and look forward to having you there.
