Remote Trauma advised and assisted with a serious Road Traffic Accident in Rwanda
27 December 2006
Remote Trauma was employed by a large independent production company to provide advice, support and training for an exciting new television series. The very nature of the show involved the crew and a celebrity participating in a complex schedule of filming in several environmentally hostile and politically unstable regions of the world.
One such show involved the filming of mountain gorillas in Rwanda, after a threat analysis had been performed and a comprehensive risk assessment completed by members of our high-risk team. Remote Trauma recommended that the crew participate in a hostile environment training course to equip them with the skills need in order to work in such a remote and potentially hazardous environment.
Due to the increased risk of working close to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s border and the lack of sufficient pre-hospital medical support, Remote Trauma advised that the production purchase a 24/7 emergency telephone support service.
The service was used on the 23rd November at 16:04pm GMT, when a member of the production team was injured after her car rolled over during an RTA. Remote Trauma advised on her initial treatment, assisted and organised her evacuation to Nairobi were she was operated on.
